The Gowrie Primary School Library Resource Centre

  • is an integral part of the school teaching and learning program;
  • provides a learning environment that values the individual as a lifelong learner;
  • provides a rich literary environment for all students to learn and relax in;
  • has a balanced collection of over 18,000 book/AV/CD Rom items centred around what is learnt in the classroom;
  • allows for a variety of interests and needs to be catered for.


 

Our Library program

  • Develops Information and Communication competency through involving students in an effective information literacy program.
    • The skills of locating, selecting, organising, presenting and evaluating information are taught using books, A/V resources and computer technologies.
    • Children have access to a fully automated library catalogue, interactive educational programs and the Internet.
  • Fosters a love of reading
    • A structured literature skills program provides children with varied language experiences in a rich literary environment.
    • Special guests, for example storytellers, authors and illustrators are often invited to share their love of literature with students.


Library Services

  • Timetabling:
    • Students come to the library with their class at rostered times to:
    • change books,
    • experience a variety of genres of literature,
    • develop an understanding of information literacy principles,
    • learn about library procedure
    • use materials, catalogues and equipment.
  • Borrowing
    • Kindergarten to year 2 may borrow up to two items
    • Years 3 and 4 up to four items
    • Year 5 and 6 up to six items at a time.
    • The loan period is two weeks.
    • Access to library facilities is available to all, including parents.
  • Leisure Activities:
    • Children are encouraged to use the library daily during their lunch break from 11.35pm to 12.00pm
    • Children are able to read magazines, write, draw, play chess, listen to stories, use the computers, complete homework or research tasks and to return or borrow books.
