Introduction
The Learning Support Centre is incorporated within the school to provide assistance to students who need to develop their competence in literacy, numeracy, social skills and life skills. Students are referred to the Learning Support Centre by a school counsellor.
Within the Learning Support Centre, each student’s learning needs are
identified and an Individual Learning Plan developed. A wide variety of
teaching strategies are implemented in order to meet their individual
learning styles and needs.
Level of Support
The class consists of a maximum of 16, Year 1 to Year 6 students who
receive intensive support and encouragement from a teacher, a special
teacher’s assistant, a school counsellor and a learning assistance teacher.
Students work at their own level in a positive and supportive environment. Positive attitudes and behaviours are rewarded and all students are expected to complete set tasks (with support and encouragement) and demonstrate good work habits.
Hours of Operation and Work Programs
• 9.00 am - 11.00 am – Literacy with art and craft integrated; social and life skills.
• 12.00 pm - 1.25 pm – Numeracy with science and technology integrated; fitness
• 2.00 pm - 2.50 pm (Monday) - Information and Communication Technology.
Individualised programs are designed to meet each student’s learning
styles and needs. These enable students to achieve positive learning
outcomes and builds confidence and self esteem.
Integration
Students are integrated into their mainstream class for various activities including: library, school assemblies, athletics and swimming carnivals, school sports, peer support groups, reading to a partner program (RAPP) .
