We aim to provide children with the skills necessary to enable them to communicate in a language other than English and to gain an understanding and respect for other Asian cultures. Gowrie offers Japanese to all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 to participate in the program and attend weekly classes. The Preschool groups also participate in a Japanese program called ELLA, which is taught through interactive applications on iPads each week.
Each class has a 45 - 60 minute lesson each week which explores the Japanese language, written scripts, culture, arts, food, landscapes, customs and traditions. The program caters to a wide variety of learning styles with experiences through songs, art, literacy and numeracy activities, multimedia activities and practical experiences.
